Wagons Ho!
The chuck wagons are coming, the chuck wagons are coming!! This is one weekend you won’t want to miss. That’s right, August 11-14, 2011 at the 78th annual Omak Stampede your heart will pound and you will be on the edge of your seat as Gary Sandstead and his two chuck wagons race around the arena at break-neck speeds. This will be the first time this event has ever entered the Stampede arena and they will be a tough act to follow. It is amazing that during our four day event you will be part of something steeped in history, rich in culture and a truly western tradition.
Speaking of tradition, we have some spectacular folks returning to our arena! Be with us as Steve Kenyon calls the exciting rodeo action and witness first hand the magnificent stock of Big Bend and Flying 5 as they try to unseat world class contestants in a battle of wills. Rowdy Barry & Tim Vrendenburg’s athleticism will create a dual between them and the bulls. This daring duo will risk life and limb to protect the bull riders and frustrate the bulls. They will be joined in the arena by Barrel Man JJ Harrison as he tempts the bulls and entertains the crowd with his hilarious jokes and crazy moves. If you miss the action as it happens, Jerry Jensen will be returning with his jumbo-tron scoreboard with instant replay to provide a second look at each and every contestant’s performance.
There is nothing richer in culture or breathtaking color as Native American history comes alive in the Indian Encampment where authentic Pow Wows, competitive Indian dancing and traditional Stickgame competitions awe young and old alike. Join hundreds of youngsters and their families on Thursday night for Wrangler Kid’s Night and don’t forget the family fun of the Davis Shows Carnival and the Grand Parade Sunday in downtown Omak. Make sure you stop by the Courtyard and check out the Western & Native Art show and enjoy the delightful small town shopping experience in Downtown Omak. An Art Show at Rockwall Cellars will be showcasing the artwork of various artists including artwork by Rowdy Barry. Friday and Saturday nights you can dance to the great music of Gary Bowling and the SRO Band immediately following the rodeo performance.
Once again, a running of the World Famous Suicide Race will be run after the conclusion of each rodeo performance. Hold onto your hats as courageous Native American riders and their magnificent horses, who are nothing less than world class athletes, take to the air. Tradition, culture and courage combine in the flight for glory and explode in a race for the finish line.
So, plan on hitchin’ your wagon in Omak, August 11-14, 2011. Don’t wait too long - tickets are going fast and we want to share the Omak Stampede and World Famous Suicide Race with you. It will be nothing less than spectacular!
In Western Friendship,
George Dunckel, President
